Fiba Agenda
One woman, dozens of reminders: making the weight of inequality visible
On the occasion of the Equal Care Day, held on 29th of February in leap years, Fiba Group carried out a striking awareness activity in Istanbul. A woman boarding a ferry wearing an outfit covered in post it notes drew the attention of passengers and passersby, highlighting the burden of care work and mental load.
Through its Yük Olmasın project, which aims to raise awareness about care work and mental load, Fiba Group sought to make women’s invisible burdens visible within the flow of everyday life as part of the activities marking 29 February Equal Care Day.
Designed to draw attention to the unequal distribution of responsibilities in daily life, the awareness initiative visualized the care work and mental load often carried by women through post-it notes. As part of the project, a woman boarded the Beşiktaş–Kadıköy ferry with dozens of post-it reminders attached to her clothing. These reminders ranged from parents’ doctor’s appointments and grocery shopping to updating a presentation at work and planning family holidays.
The initiative attracted significant attention from passengers and successfully brought the invisible burdens carried by women into public focus in a quiet yet powerful way.
29th of February represents invisible burdens
Equal Care Day is observed on 29 February to symbolize the often-unseen nature of care work. In leap years it is marked on 29 February, while in other years awareness activities are carried out on the days before or after this date. Through the Yük Olmasın project, Fiba Group aims to strengthen awareness around care work and mental load by bringing the issue into public spaces.
