Hatay Hüsnü Özyeğin Anatolian High School has started education

Osman Ötken Anatolian High School, a prestigious institution in Hatay that was severely damaged in the February 6 earthquakes, has been rebuilt by the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Vakfı with the support of Gelecek Varlık, a Fiba Grubu company. Now operating as Hüsnü Özyeğin Anatolian High School, the school held an opening ceremony where Hüsnü M. Özyeğin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation, emphasized their commitment to the city’s recovery and to providing students with a high-quality educational environment.

The original school building had to be demolished under control conditions following the 2023 disaster. Today, it has finally been reunited with its students. Thanks to the reconstruction led by the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation and supported by Gelecek Varlık, the school is ready to continue its legacy under its new name.

This 24-classroom facility marks the 30th school completed by the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation. Designed to support student development across multiple disciplines, the campus features a combined physics-chemistry-biology laboratory, visual arts and music workshops, a library, a multi-purpose hall, and outdoor courts for basketball and volleyball.

A commitment to safe and quality education

The official opening was attended by representatives from the Hatay Governorate, local and district Directorates of National Education, and municipal leadership, alongside senior executives from the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation and Gelecek Varlık.

During his speech, Hüsnü M. Özyeğin reflected on the project's significance: “In rebuilding this school, which has raised so many successful individuals in Hatay, our primary goal was to support the city's healing process and ensure our students could learn in a safe, high-standard environment.” He further noted that he has always viewed the human factor as the most vital investment for a nation’s future. “Physical structures can be renewed over time, but the true value lies in the generations raised within them. To our students: the education you receive here will shape your future. Never stop working hard or dreaming big for yourselves and this country.”

More than just a building: A sign of faith in the future

Sezin Ünlüdoğan, General Manager of Gelecek Varlık, highlighted the social responsibility aspect of the project: “We believe that contributing to society is an inseparable part of our mission. The opening of Hüsnü Özyeğin Anatolian High School is not merely a donation; it is a powerful testament to our belief in the potential of our youth. We will continue to create lasting value for our country.”

The Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation’s commitment to the earthquake region

Beyond this school, Fiba Group and the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation have remained active across the disaster zone, focusing on education, health, and housing. Their efforts include providing shelter for 5,000 people in container cities across Adıyaman, Nurdağı, and Defne. They have also established additional classrooms and sports fields in these regions, while AÇEV Child and Family Centers offer psycho-social support and educational resources.

Furthermore, the Child Wellness Center—established in partnership with Çukurova University and various medical associations—continues to provide prosthetics, rehabilitation, and scholarships to 155 children who suffered limb loss during the earthquake. To address nutritional needs, AÇEV and TOKTUT, in coordination with local authorities, launched the “Eat Healthy, Grow with Love” project, distributing 200,000 nutrition packs to 1,350 children in Antakya throughout the current academic year.
